The San Jose Police Department Central Division officers are tasked with creating a save working, learning, living and entertainment environment for San Jose residents and visitors. They utilize a community-collaboration approach to policing and work continuously to enhance already-established relationships with schools, community groups, business associations and faith-based organizations. These officers also work closely with the Gang Prevention Task Force to reduce gang activity and crimes against property, investigate traffic complaints, reduce narcotics-related activity and to create a save campus environment at local schools.

The SJPD Central Division location is open Monday through Saturday. Their hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturdays between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. The department notes these hours of operation are subject to the availability of adequate patrol staffing.
The Central Division consists of approximately 412 street miles and is divided into four patrol districts: Victor, Robert, Edward and King. This district’s boundaries are Highway 101 to the East, the Guadalupe River to the West, the City of Milpitas to the North and Highway 280 to the south. At the heart of the Central Division is Downtown San Jose which includes the Center for Performing Arts, the Tech Museum of Innovation, City Hall, and San Jose State University. SJPD Central Division officers also provide services to the Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge, which is the first urban wildlife refuge of its kind anywhere in the United States.
