The city of Morgan Hill is located in the southern portion of Santa Clara County. It was founded by a Missouri businessman in the last 1800s when he decided he wanted to have a country retreat home. The area was initially populated with farmers and ranchers, although it has since evolved into what many describe as being a bedroom community. According to 2010 census data the city has an approximate population of 38,000. About 65% of the residents are Caucasian and 34% are Hispanic or Latino. There are also small Native American, African American and Pacific Islander populations as well.
Morgan Hill is located within an earthquake zone and is close in proximity to the Calaveras Fault and San Andreas Fault. The city is situated south of San Jose, west of the Santa Cruz Mountains, north of Gilroy and west of the Diablo Range.
City and residential streets are kept safe by the men and women of the Morgan Hill Police Department.
