An 83 year-old woman contacted the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department on Friday to report that a pair of young men had broken into her home, and stole a box that contained the ashes of her late-husband.
Authorities said they received the call just after 11:30 a.m., and were told that a resident had disrupted a burglary in process. When the squad car arrived at the scene, the victim said she saw two youth running from her residence and that they hopped into a cream-colored vehicle. A third suspect was sitting in the driver’s seat, she said, and the car sped away before she could take down a license plate number.
When she walked inside, she realized the box had been stolen. Not only did it contain her husband’s ashes, but it also contained four silver coins and his death certificate. According to a report by San Francisco Local, the woman said she would not press charges as long as the box was returned.
Police said the first suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his teens, while the second suspect was a heavy-set Caucasian male who was about the same age.
