In a strange twist of events, a San Jose woman who was talked off the ledge of a highway overpass has bitten off part of a finger of a Santa Clara County Jail deputy.
The incident, according to sources, took place when the 26 year-old defendant was being booked into the facility.
Sandy Quinones had been arrested by local law enforcement officers and was being charged with resisting arrest, being under the influence of a controlled substance and on suspicion of trespassing. News sources indicated her bail on those charges had been set at $10,000, since all are misdemeanor crimes.
Now, however, she is likely facing new and far more serious felony charges due to her assault on the corrections officer. Santa Clara County Jail officials have not released the deputy’s name or her condition. It’s not clear if medical staff was able to reattach the bitten-off finger.
Quinones remains in custody and is being held on $100,000 bail bonds.
