A homeless man who spent more than 12 hours atop an industrial crane near that was parked near the San Jose City Hall has been arrested, according to jail sources.
The suspect has been booked at the Santa Clara County Jail and is being charged with trespassing. It’s unclear whether he was released on his own recognizance, as is typical with low-level, non-violent charges, or if he is being held pending bail bonds due to his lack of permanent address.
Authorities said the 39 year-old suspect climbed up the crane late Sunday and began shouting messages at passersby; most of those messages had to do with his struggles as a homeless person.
City officials said they were concerned the man would jump or slip and fall; they dispatched fire department personnel to the scene to make sure the man’s safety was preserved.
The NY Post reports negotiators from the San Jose PD were eventually able to talk him down.
He was arrested without further incident.
