San Jose citizens helped play a key role in bringing a local serial robber to justice. The man in question, 54 year-old Nghia Truong has been captured and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail. Records indicate he is being charged with seven counts of armed robbery. Bail has been set at $420,000. If the defendant or a member of his family wants to move forward with arranging a bond their total cost would be 10%, 0r $42,000. Collateral would also need to be posted in order to secure the bond. As long as the defendant appears for all mandatory court dates the collateral will be returned to whomever posted it at the conclusion of the case.
Police say the defendant was captured after some bystanders saw him robbing a local massage parlor. The suspect tried to evade capture by spraying pepper spray at them. His attempts were unsuccessful and the bystanders wrestled him to the ground. Officers arrived on the scene a short time later. It is believed that Truong may have committed another robbery about an hour before this one. Anyone who has additional information is reportedly asked to call Crime Stoppers. Persons who believe they may have also been robbed by Truong are asked to come forward as well.
The defendant is scheduled to be arraigned later this week. He is expected to plead not guilty.
