A man who is believed to have ties to a string of recent fires has been arrested and booked at the Santa Clara Main Jail on arson charges.
The incidents began in October, according to a law enforcement spokesperson. The first fire burned down a vacant building; that structure eventually needed to be demolished out of public safety concerns.
Another incident involved a brush fire which burned for hours. Investigators say they have reason to believe the suspect is linked to 12 additional fires on Interstate 680. They have not indicated how they came to believe the alleged arsonist was linked to all of these crimes.
Jailers at the Santa Clara County Jail have confirmed the man was booked into the facility on three counts of arson, although it’s believed that additional charges could be pending.
Anyone who believes they have information that could help aid in the prosecution of the arsonist is asked to contact the Milpitas Chief Fire Enforcement Officer.
