A 37 year-old man who is accused of setting as many as eight fires in the last 10 days of 2014 is being held at the Santa Clara County Jail on $500,000 bail bonds.
Authorities say the now-defendant, Jason Gilliand, is the prime suspect in a string of car fires. Police say there hasn’t been a single new report of vehicle arson since the San Jose PD took him into custody.
Gilland is facing a slew of felony charges including giving false information to an officer, three counts of arson and once count of being under the influence of a controlled substance.
No one was hurt in the fires, officers said, but the defendant caused tens of thousands of dollars in damage. The method used to set each blaze has not yet been released to the public. Authorities have, however, said the suspect has had prior run-ins with the law and was arrested last summer after police found him to be in the possession of materials that are used to start fires.
