Member of the Los Gatos Police Department have confirmed that officers are in active pursuit of local vandals.
The incidents have been taking place for the past several months. A spokesperson said a citywide crackdown was initiated in April. City officials were hopeful the problem would have waned by now. Many are saddened that graffiti and other crimes against property are still taking place.
The crimes are varied. A July 1 call indicated the window of a business had been shattered. A series of other online reports have also been filed. Details about online reports are not readily available. A Los Gatos Police official has confirmed they are receiving numerous complaints. The incidents are, for the most part, happening on a daily basis.
The criminals are targeting local businesses, residences and local schools. An investigator said the high school was broken into toward the end of last month. The pool area sustained undisclosed damages. The principal said an item was stolen. Additional information was not available.
Business owners are complaining about needing to file insurance claims for thousands of dollars. Many of these incidents relate to the vandals breaking doors and windows. Large windows can often be very expensive to replace. Los Gatos Police said that they are still looking for a person or persons who caused nearly $10,000 in damage after throwing projectile items at three local retail stores. That suspect remains at large.
A Williams Sonoma was also targeted. Officers say a vandal shot out a storefront window. This attack took place during prime business hours. It is not believed that anyone was hurt. An investigator thinks a sling shot may have been used in the attack.
At least one suspect has been booked into the San Jose Jail. That man was reportedly charged on suspicion of burglarizing vehicles. Bail information has not been publicly disclosed. Jail officials have not said how old the suspect is, whether he has a prior history of arrest or how many cars and trucks he was accused of breaking into. It is unclear whether he is tied to the other crimes.
Anyone who believes they have information that could lead to the capture and/or arrest of additional vandals is asked to contact Los Gatos Police.
