A 19 year-old San Jose woman who has been accused of fatally injuring a bicyclist was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail earlier this week on felony hit and run charges.
She has since been released from custody after posting bail bonds.
A spokesperson for the Milpitas Police Department said the incident took place several days ago along a stretch of the Montague Expressway. Witnesses said a gold Toyota Prius struck a bicyclist and then sped away.
When officers arrived at the scene they found a 29-year old woman lying along the side of the road. She was transported to a local hospital to be treated for serious injuries, but died the following day. Milpitas Police Department investigators found the gold Prius parked in a nearby parking lot.
They later reached out to its owner and learned that the 19 year-old woman had in fact been driving the car at the time the accident took place.
The now-defendant will have her first court appearance later this month.
